The annually anticipated Jounieh International Festival opened yesterday with a bang, as local residents and tourists were treated to a spectacular, synchronized fireworks show that lit up the night sky.
The show was the longest of its kind, lasting over seven minutes and dazzling spectators with a display of timed and choreographed pyrotechnics. The remotely operated fireworks seemed to dance to the tune of Tony Kalaany's especially developed soundtrack.
It was a most fitting launch to the festival organized by PHELLIPOLIS non-profit association in collaboration with Jounieh Municipality and executed by ICE. MTV and local radio stations Fame FM, Melody FM, Nostalgie, Nrj and Sawt el Ghad covered the show, live.
The organizers obtained special permissions allowing boat owners to night-sail along the breathtaking Jounieh coast. Those on board enjoyed the oriental mixes of DJ Said Mrad's live set, with a rare perspective of the fiery spectacle.
On shore, thanks to the live broadcasts, visitors reveled in the sights and sounds of the extravaganza amid the coastal cafes and restaurants nestled in Old Jounieh's traditional stone architecture.
Attendees challenged themselves to take the best fireworks photo for a chance to win valuable prizes. To enter the contest, applicants must upload up to three photos onto the official Jounieh International Festival mobile application by June 28. The public and a jury will select the winner, to be announced at a ceremony on July 11.
An enchanting evening was had by all, filling the crowds with anticipation for the upcoming festival's exciting concerts and family activities, until July 13.
