The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) and the Global Confederation of Higher Education Associations for Agricultural and Life Sciences (GCHERA) organized the 8th world conference of GCHERA entitled "Universities' Global Challenge: Nutritional Security and Environmental Sustainability for Human Health", from the 24th till the 26th of June 2015, with the presence and participation of eminent personalities.
The opening ceremony included the words of: Mrs. Roula Safa, Lebanese anchor, Dr. Lara Hanna Wakim, Vice President of GCHERA-Conference and Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at USEK; Prof. John Kennelly, President of GCHERA; a video conference given by Dr. Franklin Chang Diaz, Former NASA astronaut, record holder as the 2014 for the most spaceflights, President and CEO of Ad Astra Rocket Company at the USA; Mr. Ragheb Alama, Goodwill Ambassador in West Asia for the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and Rev. Fr. Hady Mahfouz, President of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik.
This conference has treated several themes: the role of Education and research: from food security to nutritional security, the role of nutrition in transforming health care from a disease to a health based system, sustainable Agriculture: Feeding 9 billion with a smaller environmental footprint, innovation through Agricultural food system entrepreneurship.
