After sold out shows earlier this year, a new line up of comics is coming to the St. Georges Yacht Club on July 20th, 21st and 22nd.
The laughs, excitement and electricity of Hollywood's famed Sunset Strip return to Beirut later this month with the Hollywood Pop-up Comedy Club, Friday - Sunday, July 20th, 21st and 22nd, inside the St. Georges Yacht Club. Featuring a line up of Hollywood's hottest standup comedians, this event follows the debut edition of the Popup Comedy Club held last April, which was an outstanding success with sold out shows, fans exhausted from laughing so much and comedians touched by the soul and beauty of Lebanon's culture and people.
Taking the stage for the July engagement are four comics who regularly sell out the clubs in Hollywood and who have made their marks in film and television. Serving as host will be Beirut's own Anthony Salame, co-host of Lebanon's Virgin Radio Morning Show.
The Hollywood comedians are: Byron Bowers, who can be seen in the Showtime hit "The Chi" and who played in the recent independent film hit, Kuso, and has appeared on the Comedy Central network and ViceLand TV on HBO.
Amir K, Iranian born and California raised, was featured on the rebooted version of MADtv on the CW Network, as well as Comedy Central, MTV, and NBC's Last Comic Standing, and won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in the Oscar winning film Argo.
Jessimae Peluso, who starred in the MTV series Girl Code, and has established a major comedy presence on social media between her regular gigs at packed clubs across the U.S.
Skyler Stone, a veteran of film (For Your Consideration) and television (Rules of Engagement, The Late Late Show, Raising Hope), while being a regular at The Improv, The Laugh Factory and The Comedy Store.
The Hollywood Popup Comedy Club is produced by Beirut's Samira Kawas, and Los Angeles-based Ron Senkowski, Senkowski visits Beirut regularly and sees the Popup club, and comedy in general, as a universal bridge among international cultures. "For me, some of the best nights out are at comedy clubs. I just thought, wouldn't it be cool if we could have these fantastically entertaining comics perform for audiences who may never have experienced a night in a traditional comedy club. And the comedians for the most part have never even been to the Middle East. Ahead of time they are nervous - mostly because of our western media - but by the end of the time they spend here, during which they've done the six shows, gone out to amazing nightspots like The One, or Mandaloun, or Casino or Falamenki, they have made hundreds of friends and bonded with the culture in a way that literally turns them into ambassadors for Lebanon. They come back to the States in awe of how beautiful the people of Lebanon are, and how incredible the country is. For me, we are bridging cultures through comedy. It's pretty rewarding."
