An interactive theatre performance by Nadine Sures

Inspired by Hyam Yared’s novel Set in Beirut, the performance tells the story of an actor, desperate to pay her rent, who auditions for the lead part in a play. Forced to leave her shadow at the coat check for the audition and subsequent performances, she gets the part yet never meets the director, who remains invisible. Illuminated by the lighting designer and haunted by the ticket clerk, the actor unveils a series of narratives inspired by her own shadows and life in Lebanon.

L’armoire des Ombres is an interactive theatre performance that laces together physical theatre improvisation, video and sound installation; an immersion of body and light, gesture, vocalized sound and movement, deconstructed physical narrative. The audience is invited to move through all parts of the theatre; the front of house, stage area, backstage, dressing rooms, audience… transcending the limitations of the fourth wall. An prestigious event for Lebanese audiences!

Video sequences are projected simultaneously in the playing space, and the characters from Hyam Yared’s text communicate their stories in an interactive dance between the video and actor.
