Big Dance 2014
In the presence of the British Ambassador to Lebanon, Tom Fletcher, the British Council cordially invites you to join 1000 students from 18 public and private schools who will perform the "Big Dance" in Lebanon. Your presence and coverage of this novel, exciting and cultural event will provide the boost for its national success.
On Friday 18 May 2013, thousands of schoolchildren from over 1,000 schools in Lebanon and across the world joined together to take part in the Big Dance pledge for 2013 as a legacy to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, created especially for them by Tamara Rojo, Artistic Director, English National Ballet. The Big Dance Schools pledge is presented in partnership with the British Council and its programme Connecting Classrooms.
Big Dance 2013 reached approximately 5 million people.
Following last year's remarkable big dance event in Lebanon with 15 Lebanese public and private schools and 851 students taking over the Beirut Souks; this year again, the Parliament Square downtown Beirut, will witness the Big Dance with 1000 students coming together from 18 schools to celebrate this day with their counterparts from around the world for a 3 minute dance routine with the aim of encouraging people to get into dance, increase fitness levels and generate a legacy of dance for all.
60 countries aside from Lebanon are taking part in this dance!
This special 5th edition is created by Scottish Ballet with fun and celebration at its heart, as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme of the XX Commonwealth Games.
This initiative is part of the wider work of the British Council with schools in Lebanon which have been linked directly with schoolsin the UK; throughout this year, pupils in Lebanon have exchanged information about dance, costumes and music in their culture, shared experiences with their partner schools and extended activities to include active, healthy lifestyles and balanced diets.
