Maxime Chaya s RIO Half way through
11 july 2013Barely one month since Maxime Chaya embarked on his latest rowing expedition from the port of Geraldton, West Australia, he has made it halfway towards his destination in the Mauritius Islands. Since departing aboard the tRio vessel on June 9, Chaya and his two crew mates, Livar Nysted (Faroe Islands) and Stuart Kershaw (GB), have overcome life-threatening obstacles, a shortage of water and power, and a four-day delay when they were forced to deploy their sea anchor due to storms and strong winds, yet have still managed to reach the halfway mark a week ahead of schedule. Chaya said the team is expecting to set a new world record when they reach land sometime in August, but warned that "anything can happen in this extremely remote and isolated part of our planet".
