"Oum El Nour" Wins Prestigious 'Pompidou' Prize
The 5th European Drug Prevention Prize gets awarded to a Middle Eastern NGO for the first time
Beirut, December 2012: Oum El Nour for "rehabilitation and drug prevention" has proudly been awarded the 5th European Drug Prevention Prize of the Pompidou Group during the group's high-levelconference held in Strasbourg, France on November 14, 2012.
Oum El Nour was selected among 83 applicants from 24 different countries to win this prize, which has been awarded for the first time to an NGO in the Middle East. Pompidou presented Oum El Nour with the token worth 5,000 Euros for its innovative work in drug prevention and the active involvement and participation of youth through its "Youth Connection" project which empowers youth to be actors in their community and to spread prevention messages.
Founded in 1990, Oum el Nour works continuously on treating addicts on a complimentary basis with the aim of returning them back clean to society to start their life with a fresh new slate. To date, over4,500 people have benefited from Oum el Nour's Rehabilitation Program while more than 15,000 individuals are reached annually through its Prevention Program.
