    Deir al Kalaa

Deir El Kalaa is a monastery standing on a cliff at 800 meters above sea level.

A real amalgam of ruins, this site bears the marks of the third largest Roman temple in Lebanon after the Baalbek and Niha temples-dating back to the first century A.D-and the visible prints of a Byzantine residential-insudtrial complex.

    Did you know that...
-The word "Deir El Kalaa"means"monastery of the fortress"in Arabic. It actually refers to the monastery built on site by Maronite monks during the 18th century.
-The temple "Baal Marcod"or "the Dance God"is the main temple in the Roman City.

    Don't Miss...
    -The archeological site(residential-industrial complex roman bath,byzantine church,atc..)
-The saint Johin the Baptist Church
    -Al Bustan Annual Festival(February-March)
-The panoramic city view from the site.
