    Anjar

Located in the Central Bekaa valley, about 60 km east of Beirut, Anjar, as the inhabitants of the region call it, or Haouch Moussa, as it is officially designated, is a relatively recent settlement of Armenian refugees. Anjar is near the Beirut-Damascus international highway.
This city is totally dissimilar from any other archaeological experience you’ll have in Lebanon. Anjar is exclusively one period, the Umayyad. Enclosed by well-preserved walls, the vast city still preserves its original rectangular shape and stands between two huge, perpendicular main streets serving the whole town. You can visit the remains of the mosque as well as the partially reconstructed great palace here.
    Did you know that...
-Aanjar's name comes from the Arabic "Ain Gerrha",meaning the source of Gerrha.
-Ruins in the area were discovered by accident in 1949 they date back to the Umayyad dynasty of the 8th century.
-Aanjar has 600 shops giving it the allure of a major Umayyad strip mall.
