The opening of the exhibition HEARTLAND - Territoire d’Affects was held at Beirut Exhibition Center - BIEL, in the presence of H.E the Minister of Culture Raymond Araiji, the curator Joanna Abou Sleiman Chevalier, the producer and manager of the event Nadine Saddi Zaccour, the participating artists, art collectors, curators, owners of art galleries, representatives of sponsors, and the media.
Within this highly-sensitive exhibition, the relationship between the 17 artists and Lebanon (or “Loubnan”) is translated into an experience, a sensation, a memory. The internationally-renowned participating artists expressed themselves through painting, sculpture, poetry, installation, photography, and video.
HEARTLAND - Territoire d’Affects exhibition presents contemporary artworks around a territory that is “Loubnan” - an emotional territory of love, disenchantment, fusion and rejection - with its multiple identities, remarkably paradoxical yet so moving, inspiring and alive. The exhibition “Heartland” unfurls on a fine, precious, unbreakable thread.
According to the curator Joanna Abou Sleiman Chevalier, “Each work recounts its extremely close link with Lebanon. The emotions are exacerbated. The concept here is to touch the truth of the artists… therefore, that of the visitors.”
The artists showcasing their artworks are: Etel Adnan, Nadim Asfar, Annabel Daou, Simone Fattal, Fadia Haddad, Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, Gilbert Hage, Mona Hatoum, Lamia Joreige, Hiba Kalache, Mireille Kassar, Nabil Nahas, Marwan Rechmaoui, Ranya Sarakbi, Rayyane Tabet, and Najla El Zein.
The architect Galal Mahmoud developed the “scenography” in collaboration with the students of University of ALBA: Alissa El-Ali, Bruna Dagher, and Sabine Chayeb.
The exhibition is open daily to the public until Sunday, November 29th, 2015 from 11:00AM till 8:00PM at Beirut Exhibition Center – BIEL
