Karadeniz Powership FATMAGÜL SULTAN arrives to Lebanon
(What's up ?) 11 years ago

The Karadeniz Powership Fatmagül Sultan of 205 MW installed capacity, arrived to Lebanon one week after setting sail from Turkey. Facing the Zouk Power Plant. The Powership set its anchor in the port which Karadeniz has especially built for the mooring of the first powership during her stay in Lebanon once the weather conditions are stable.

The first power ship set sail to Lebanon on Friday, February 8th 2013, 2 months ahead of the contractual deadline. The agreement was sealed between the Lebanese government and specifically the Ministry of Energy with the Turkish holding Karadeniz in the last part of 2012, and the contractual countdown started with Lebanese Government making the down payment in December 2012.

The Powership has been deployed in a record short period of time of under 2 months from the financial closure by the Lebanese Government. Karadeniz also undertook to build a special mooring location / port in Zouk for the Lebanese Government for the operation of the Powership in addition to the building the shore infrastructure for the Fuel and Electricity connections.  Following the final on site connections and preparations Karadeniz Powership Fatmagül Sultan will start delivering electricity in the coming weeks, making the Lebanese Powership project of Karadeniz the fastest ever completed project of its size in the world adding a 205 MW of extra power to the Lebanese grid.

Preparations are underway to launch the second ship for Jieh in the coming few months, which in return will increase the electricity provided to 270 MW for nurturing the Lebanese power grid for three years.

Karadeniz, the Turkish Holding, has developed specific and exceptional solutions to support Lebanon and other regional countries by catering to the people's electricity needs. In collaboration with the Lebanese government, the company has put an exceptional level of effort into resolving the difficult Lebanese power cut situation.

Karadeniz powerships, which are able to operate on both liquid fuels as well as natural gas, deliver a continuous and reliable power supply to the national grid system ensuring supply to all regions, not only the area in which they are stationed. Utilizing the latest technology and design within the field of energy efficiency, the powerships are built with precision and are environmentally friendly.

Due to huge energy and power demand, Lebanon has experienced major challenges in coping efficiently with the electricity needs of its populace thus witnessing continual power outages. The Lebanese government has opted for the powership project as the most practical and rapid solution, both technologically and economically.

The Karadeniz Powership Fatmagül Sultan, which has a production capacity of 205 MW of electricity, will be operated in Lebanon by a sixty-member team of technicians and engineers. The Powership is 142 meters long and 42 meters wide. The Powership houses the electricity generating equipment, the high voltage transformers, a special workshop as well as onboard fuel tanks allowing for continuous power production.
