WHATSAPP is on the verge of the rolling out a video call feature to its hugely-popular messaging app, to help it compete with the likes of Facebook, Skype and Apple's FaceTime.
WhatsApp is hard at work on a video call feature for its hugely-successful iPhone, Android, Windows and desktop apps.
Video calls have been rumoured for some time now, but it finally looks like WhatsApp is almost ready to roll-out the feature.
In the last few days, a video calling option has appeared for some beta testers.
That's a strong indication that Facebook-owned WhatsApp is close to rolling out the highly-anticipated feature for its one billion users worldwide.
Unfortunately for those signed-up to the beta program, Android Authority says video calling does not actually work yet.
A more recent version of the beta software has since removed the option.
Leaked screenshots of video calls working in WhatsApp have previously leaked online
Leaked screenshots of video calls working in WhatsApp have previously leaked online, but nothing has come to fruition as yet.
WhatsApp is clearly busy making some radical changes to its cross-platform messenger (although, it still hasn't added this must-have feature from one of its closet rivals).
Earlier this month, the Facebook-owned service pushed-out two new desktop apps that let Windows 8, Windows 10 and Apple OS X users continue their conversations on their home computers.
The news comes as more leaked translation screenshots pointed to WhatsApp rolling-out a new voicemail service across its Android and iOS apps.[express]
