Avril Lavigne has recently performed in opening ceremony of Special Olympics hosted by UAE. The beauty and grace of Muslim culture apparently really moved the singer during her visit. It eventually led to Avril dressing up in the Muslim attire i.e. an Abaya with Hijab (veil) in an appreciation post.
She found the whole experience truly magical. Avril’s veil posts are shared after the Muslims’ Massacre in New Zealand. Therefore, Muslims can appreciate her inclination for Muslim culture.
People may consider Avril’s attempt on cross-cultural dress-up as cultural appropriation and a double standard. Critics often point out the fact that many European countries such as France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Switzerland ban the burka and Hijab. But when a white woman dons on the Muslim attire, people praise them for it.
Though despite the double standard, it’s safe to assume that Avril Lavigne had no ill intention while posting this picture. In fact, the singer has expressed her love towards Muslims in her own style. She has also enjoyed the company of camels on the beach.
