The Afghan Girl
This Afghan woman was the subject of a famous photograph by journalist Steve McCurry. The image brought her recognition when it was featured on the cover of National Geographic Magazine (June 1985) at a time when she was approximately 12. Gula was known simply as "the Afghan Girl" until she was formally identified in early 2002.

Oklahoma City firefighter Chris Fields takes away dying Baylee Almon from the rubble. It is a very emotional moment as the baby celebrated her birthday the day before. This picture was widely distributed among the Associated Press and The Daily Oklahoman. The photograph earned Pulitzer Prize.
