It shocks you to know that Candy Crush has competition. This time it's more like war strategies type of game. The game was developed and published by Supercell in 2012, but was officially released on Google play in 2013. The game is about building a community with troops and then attacking other players online to earn Gold and Elixir; which will allow you to build defenses and protect you against attacks. With only two games; Clash of Clans and Hay Day, Supercell had grossed $279 million by April 2013. With 8.5 million daily players, Clash of Clans became amongst the top 5 most downloaded games on App Store between December 2012 and May 2013, and the third highest game in revenue generated on the App Store and Google Play. It generates around $654,000 per day according to AppData from the purchase of add-on-content and other downloadable items. Supercell is marketing it vigorously where commercials have been featured during various prime time programming on major networks like ESPN.
It has become an addictive game, just raise an army of Barbarians, War Wizards, Dragons and others, join a clan of players, or create your own Clan to contest ownership of the Realm. Once you're in a clan, other members will lend you their troops, which you can use to attack players in other clans.
Ok so I understand the game is interesting, but some people take it to the extremes; "the former #1 player in the world who was so addicted to his virtual empire in the game, he was showering with iPads wrapped in plastic to maintain his hold on his throne." "Looking back, I think I must have been insane," that's what he says now. As it is a freemium game, where you download it for free but you buy things with real money later on, he reached a point where he spent more than $250 a week on Gems!! It later felt like a job and not a game...
I don't want to look offensive, but I think there are much more important things to do with money. Ok for few dollars, but 250! Seriously!!
I only hope people can work on their addictions and do things with conduct. I am not against mobile games or even play stations or whatever, but make use of your time. What about your social life, family, friends, OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, and we blame the younger generation for their addiction on video games while adults can't seem to find any self control!
This may sound really old but life is so precious to waste it on games...
