After two unforgettable rides around the moon, we finally reached the third and final concert of the season last Wednesday 26th December at Metro Al Madina. Flugen, presented "Dreams & Colors", an hour and a half of magic that featured musical and theatrical performances that took the audience through a dreamy journey.
Flugen is a global fusion project, was established in 2015 by Maya Aghniadis a 27-year-old multi-instrumentalist and music composer. She experimented with new sounds and instruments, from ethnic beats to heartwarming melodies until the Flugen sound was found. Maya started with 6 track EP "Lost Banjo" that was released in 2017 with the collaboration of French cellist Marie Caparros. A year later, the LP "Ondes" was created adding more vocal harmonies and progressive melodies to the Flugen sound.
Maya then merged both albums to create a musical show entitled "Qitar" that brought together on two occasions, young enthusiastic performers from dancers to vocalists and actors, friends and family who believed in her vision and wanted to help bring it to life. While both Qitars were underway Maya was putting the finishing touches on her third album "Dreams & colors" which is an EP composed and produced by her and released with Portuguese record label "Ohxala" in the late 2018, which eventually lead to the third and final show "Dreams and Colors".
"Dreams & Colors" immersed the audience in the story of "The Dream Man" Alex Abdallah (the main dancer) and through the beautiful mind and hands of Maya Aghniadis (piano, live electronics, flutes, vocals) and Pol Seif (clarinet, percussion) the music unfolded. Narrating the story through the deep was Shaman and vocalist Tonez and guided by the Fairies & Goddesses: Miriam Mattouk (African Goddess), Maria Kai (Fire Goddess), Frida Chehlaoui (Goddess of the Mountain), Melissa Nikolaou (Wandering Fairy), Monà Hallab (The Owl).
