    6th ARTE Film Week

    The Metropolis Association, with the support of the French Institute of Lebanon and in partnership with the BLC Bank is organising the 6th edition of ARTE Film Week to present the newest cinematographic co-productions of the European Cultural Channel ARTE.

     

     

    This event will be held at the cinema Metropolis Empire Sofil between the 12th and the 19th of October 2014.

     

     

    This new edition will be inaugurated with Saint Laurent by Bertrand Bonello, a film about the joy and suffering of a man who wanted to be the best of his generation. The film was in the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival 2014 and is considered as "an artistic film about an artist." Distributed by Eagle Films, Saint Laurent will soon be released in Lebanese theaters.

     

     

    The films in this year's selection have been presented in Film Festivals around the globe: The Kidnapping of Michel Houellebecq has received a very warm welcome upon its premiere at the 2014 Forum Section of the Berlin Film Festival while Celine Sciamma's Girlhood has opened the 2014 Directors' Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival and Love is the Perfect Crime with Matthieu Almaric and Maiwenn toured in several festivals, from San Sebastian to Toronto.

     

     

    Also featured in the program, films from Asia, South America and Europe will be showing during the week such as: the Cuban film Melaza, selected at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam in 2013, the film Jauja, winner of the FIPRESCI prize in the Un Certain Regard section (Cannes 2014) - by acclaimed Argentinian filmmaker Lisandro Alonso, starring Viggo Mortensen who also composed part of the film's original music, from Japan the long-awaited Still The Water by Naomi Kawase which was in the Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014 and finally, Xenia the Greek film by Panos H. Koutras, which was selected in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2014.

     

    André de Margerie, Director of International Relations in ARTE France will attend the opening night of the ARTE Film Week on Sunday, October 12th 2014 to present the program of this 6th edition to the Lebanese public, and to shed light on the importance of the ongoing partnership between the Metropolis Association and the leading European Cultural Channel.
