Wednesday, December 9, 2015 marks a date that has been held in praise by many art and lifestyle enthusiasts alike. Iwan Maktabi, the innovator behind "One Carpet for Love" initiative, brought together various Lebanese designers from all disciplines to weave various threads of society into carpet designs that showcase the rich tapestry of life in Lebanon. The initiative aims at creating pieces that give back to society the love and support it has unconditionally given Iwan Maktabi over the decades.
Among the many that were in attendance, numerous representatives of the Lebanese media and art industry experts took part in the occasion that shook the very fabric of how an art form can be perceived
Bokja, Rana Salam, Orient 499, and Maria Group graced the list of designers who contributed to the first phase of this unique initiative. The second phase will take place later this year and will feature four other prominent designers who will add their creations to the One Carpet for Love Collection.
The proceeds of "One Carpet for Love" will be donated to various charities in support of the mission to build a better Lebanon. "I have always wanted to use art as a way to bring about social change," explained Mohamed Maktabi when asked about the reason for creating such an initiative. "The input of the contributing Lebanese designers, with the help of world renowned carpet designer Jan Kath, made the creation of these pieces a success", added Chirine Maktabi.
During the event, Iwan Maktabi also showcased two brand new collections for the year 2016, entitled "Spacecrafted" and "Artwork", along with an abstract woven installation designed and executed by prominent Lebanese designer, Ghassan Salameh, to offer an alternative lighting solution by working on the interaction between light and metal surfaces.
